The Attorney General and the President of the Republic spoke about the possible terrorist attack by the ELN that was denounced by the prosecutor.
In the private meeting, the Attorney General expressed to the President his annoyance and concern over the public statements by the High Commissioner for Peace, Danilo Rueda, who irresponsibly and dangerously dismissed the information presented by the Prosecutor’s Office about the possible attack when he stated in a public interview on August 10 that: “The sabotage of peace has different mechanisms, one of them is to misinform, and having alleged sources that are not verified and that lead to political and public decisions that do not correspond to that reality”.
The head of the investigative entity regretted that the High Commissioner does not act in his position in defense of the institutional framework and justice.
The Attorney General Francisco Barbosa indicated that with this statement by the High Commissioner for Peace his life and that of his family were put at risk, and expressed at the meeting his concern for his safety and that of his family circle, not only now that he is in the exercise of his position, but when his term in the accusing entity ends in February 2024.
The Attorney General told the President that despite the seriousness of the facts denounced, he ratifies his commitment to the peace process with the ELN and to total peace. In this sense, he reminded him that he will continue to accompany peace within the framework of his constitutional and legal powers.
After listening to the arguments, the President of the Republic declared his concern for the safety of the Attorney General and offered him his support.
