AS Monaco Striker Wissam Ben Yedder Indicted for Rape and Sexual Assault

A few hours before the resumption of Ligue 1 football, the week has been complicated for AS Monaco international striker Wissam Ben Yedder. This Thursday, August 10, the footballer was indeed indicted for “rape, attempted rape and sexual assault”, we learned from the Nice prosecutor’s office, confirming information from Nice morning. According to our information, the French footballer, who turns 33 this Saturday, was discreetly summoned and then placed in police custody on Tuesday morning by judicial police investigators in the company of his 25-year-old little brother.

After 48 hours of hearings, a judicial investigation was finally opened Thursday against the international with 19 selections. He was placed under judicial supervision and had to “pay a deposit of 900,000 euros”. According to our information, proof of the seriousness of the charges against Wissam Ben Yedder, the Nice prosecutor’s office had requested the placement in pre-trial detention of the footballer. Requisitions which were ultimately not followed by the judge of freedoms and detention. The footballer’s brother was also indicted for “rape, attempted rape and sexual assault”.

A very detailed account of the two complainants

The legal troubles of the Ben Yedder brothers began after the complaint, at the beginning of the summer, of two young women of 19 and 20 years. They say they met the footballer and his brother during an evening spent on a beach in Saint-Laurent-du-Var (Alpes-Maritimes) on July 10. They claim to have then continued the evening in Beausoleil, next to the principality of Monaco, where the footballer from Sarcelles (Val-d’Oise) and his brother would have imposed sexual acts on them.

The two young women, who are not from the Nice region, had been heard by the judicial police a few days after the facts denounced and had given a very detailed account. According to our information, during his police custody, Wissam Ben Yedder admitted having met the young women during this evening. From a source close to the file, he would also have admitted to having had a relationship with one of the two complainants, but ensures that it was consented. A defense that did not convince the investigating judge in charge of the case.

Author of 19 goals last year in Ligue 1, the international striker – he has not been called up to the France team since June 2022 – was present Friday at AS Monaco training, at the performance center of La Turbie, according to AFP. Just before the announcement of his indictment, the AS Monaco coach announced that Ben Yedder would be captain and starter on Sunday in Clermont for his club’s first day. This Friday evening, AS Monaco did not react to the announcement of the indictment of its player. In a completely different case, the attacker was sentenced in April to a suspended six-month prison sentence and a fine of 133,798.70 euros for tax evasion in Spain. Iberian justice accused the former Sevilla FC player of having “consciously” falsified to declare certain income.
