In Lebbeke, mayor Jan Vanderstraeten (CD&V) calls on the inhabitants in a buffer zone to help a control company fight the tiger mosquito later this month. This was also noticed this year in the East Flemish municipality. Infected tiger mosquitoes can spread disease.
Lebbeke is already on the third round of combat. The tiger mosquito was seen for the first time last year and in July a resident of Rossevaalstraat reported a possible tiger mosquito again. Sciensano and the Institute of Tropical Medicine confirm that it is about the tiger mosquito.
The animal is persistently present in the region and a buffer zone of 200 meters has been established. All houses in that zone received a residents’ letter containing all the measures they must take to combat the exotic species. A control company will come by on August 28 to do the necessary.
