Accusations of Monopoly and Irregularities: Xunta Promotes Companies Friendly to the Popular Party, Say Nationalists

The nationalists accuse the Xunta of “promoting the monopoly of companies friendly to the Popular Party”

SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA, 5 (EUROPA PRESS)

The Minister of Infrastructure, Ethel Vzquez, has highlighted that the annulment of three school transport contracts by the Galician justice system when detecting “dominance” by the Monbus group represents 2% of those managed by the Xunta in this area, a total of 184 distributed between the Department of Education and its department, which carries those of the shared service.

For its part, the BNG has warned that “more” sentences will come in this regard and has denounced the “many irregularities and breaches that are not anecdotes or specific cases that have to do with the operation of this public service.” In plenary session of Parliament, the deputy Paulo Ríos also lamented the “legal storm” affecting the Xunta, due to the three sentences “rendering three awards of school transport without effect”.

“They are promoting a behavior of total monopoly of the Monbus group,” he criticized. “The Xunta promotes the monopoly of the companies that are friends of the Popular Party”, she added.

“Who is pressing for this to be so? Who swallows, we already know, but who is pressing,” he snapped, in his question to the regional minister.

She has told her that “enough of allowing this group with the approval of the Government is passing over the rights of users and workers and the sector itself”, because, in her opinion, the regional Executive “what it does in the best case scenario is twisting the law” and “shielding the privileges of a business group with public money”.

“OF THE TOWN HALLS NI MU”

For her part, the Minister has made the parliamentarian ugly by going to the Chamber “with the usual obsession” and with “qualifications that are not appropriate in terms of public transport under regional jurisdiction.” “When it belongs to the municipalities, that’s right: neither mu”, she has reproached him, before insisting that “to know what is done, you have to compare.”

In this sense, the head of Infrastructures has assured that “the BNG is not an example of anything in terms of mobility” and has told her that “they do not intend to come here to set an example”.

“Who is carrying out the transport in Pontevedra? Because they are not even capable of a contract, I am not saying more than 180 anymore. In Lugo? They govern co-governing, and there it is an inexhaustible source of complaints. Who is it awarded to? A friend of yours “Whose friend is it? Who is it assigned to? I guess they’ll take it away… It’s taking a long time,” Ethel Vzquez released.

Next, he also referred to the Santiago city council, where “the contract court tore down” the contract. “You know who is doing it. I suppose that today they will also take it off and put a new one on. I suppose you know who the majority company is… It’s taking me long. We are waiting,” he insisted.

Along these lines, the Galician official has rejected the reproaches for lacking, in her opinion, “technical arguments” and has linked it to “the protest song” of the nationalist group.

School transport, he has claimed, supposes “an enormous challenge” and is a “complex” area and in which the Xunta includes “more investment”. The reality, he has stressed, “contradicts everything that the apocalyptic vision of him says.”

In this way, he has affirmed that the adjudication process was “scrupulous, transparent” and “of course clean” and has defended that the Xunta “won almost all the resources”, 100% in the case of disputes.

Finally, he has replied that “he comes to puff up 2% when the BNG is quiet when the Government of Spain eliminates bus stops” and “when 100% in Santiago are cancelled.”

“Enough of being very tame with Pedro Sánchez and very brave with the Xunta and enough of seeing straw in the other’s eye and not a trunk in one’s own,” he concluded.

REPLY AND CLOSURE

In reply, Paulo Ríos asked him “not to try to turn this country into an amusement park for beach bars and cronyism.”

“I’m not treating favors at all and nothing is chaos,” the minister concluded by way of closing, in a speech in which she linked the interpellation with the intention of pouring “mud” to “muck up” the debate.
