A soldier from Helvoirt in Brabant, who was arrested last week for taking hostage and assaulting a woman, caused a fatal collision yesterday under the influence. The Public Prosecution Service has confirmed this to Broadcasting Brabant.
The first case was last Thursday. A woman was then found on the street. She said she was mistreated and held hostage by the soldier from Helvoirt. Later that day, the man was arrested at home by members of the Marechaussee and the police. Hard drugs were also found.
According to Omroep Brabant, he was detained until Tuesday. Then he was suspended from pre-trial detention “under special conditions”. The exact terms of those conditions have not been disclosed.
Weert
Two days later, an 83-year-old cyclist was hit by a passenger car in Weert. The victim was rushed to hospital but did not survive the collision. It now appears that the driver of the car was the soldier from Helvoirt. He was under the influence and injured and taken to a hospital, where he was arrested again.
Further details about the soldier are missing and are not provided by the judiciary or the military police.
