A 45-year-old man, whose identity has not been provided, died on Thursday drowned in a fountain located in the urban area of Murciaindicate police sources and witnesses. Although it was first reported that the man had approached the river, to cool off, and had drowned, the collapse and death occurred at the nearby source. Those present assure that the man showed symptoms of being under the effects of some type of toxin.
The events took place at the entrance of the Pier. Witnesses alerted the Emergencies shortly before half past four: there was a person who needed urgent medical assistance next to the Manterola Footbridge.
According to those present, on the worst day of the red alert for heat in the Region, this man would have tried to alleviate the high temperatures in a way that ended up costing him his life. Witnesses assured that he went to cool off in a fountain located next to the aforementioned catwalk and suddenly they saw him senseless. Although they pulled him out of the water (there was barely a span, but enough to drown if he lost consciousness) and tried to revive him, it was not possible. it had drowned. Ahead, a thermometer marked 46 degrees.
To the place were mobilized members of Civil Protection, agents of the National Police and toilets in one 061 ambulance. These could only certify the death of the man, whose body was covered with a white sheet waiting for the arrival of the judge to authorize its removal.
The coroner and the judicial authority on duty were alerted to remove the body and transfer it to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Murcia, so that it is the autopsy that certifies the reason for death: if it was due to drowning or he suffered a previous illness that made him faint, with lethal results. The deceased is a man of Valencian origin and a resident of Cartagena.
