Last year, the classic pre-season tournament was played in Norway due to problems with the ice rink in Strömstad. When the cup now celebrates its tenth anniversary, it was back in Bohuslän.
Tournament play began on Thursday. Then Färjestad won over Leksand, who left the ice goalless after losing 0–3. But against Frölunda, the players had to break their clean sheet for the season.
Already after four minutes of play, Leksand led 2–0 against the Gothenburg team. Oskar Lang and Arvid Eljas gave the team from the valleys a two-goal lead. But Frölunda would catch up and pass – even before the first period was over.
Super finish by Innala
First, Linus Öberg reduced the numerical superiority, then Jere Innala came into a free position and with a wrist shot he “flipped” the puck up in the right cross. Frölunda had equalized at 2–2 and there would be more.
Three minutes after the Finn’s finish, Linus Nässén rounded the box and threw a puck into the goal. There was Nicklas Lasu’s stick that pushed the puck in behind Filip Larsson.
Finally, it was time for Frölunda’s new team captain to introduce himself this season. Max Friberg sneaked into the offensive zone. The shot from Max Lindroth bounced out to the team captain who fired a direct shot to make it 4–2.
Öberg: “We are not in the beginning”
Linus Öberg scored Frölunda’s first goal of the season and to ExpressenTV he says:
– I think we are not really in the beginning, we get two goals in the back before we wake up. We get a little hotter when we start throwing pucks at the goal, he says.
He thinks it was noticed that it was the season premiere.
– It’s fun to be up and running but it’s the first match, but we’re mostly here to get into it and understand what we want to develop with our game, he says.
Jere Innala two-goal scorer
The first period offered a total of six goals in Lionshov. When the second period was over, the 500 spectators in place had not seen the puck as often in the net. In fact, it only happened once.
And for the second time in the match it was Jere Innala, this time outnumbered, who scored.
Henrik Tömmernäs hit a diagonal pass to the 25-year-old who directly scored 5-2.
Last season the forward scored 26 points in the SHL, but he did not want to say how many points he will score this year in Expressen’s broadcast.
– I don’t know my numbers, but I hope to play better than last season, he says.
Even Innala thought it was great to be back on the ice.
– It’s very nice to be up and running after the summer and play the first game of the season, everyone is very excited.
And of his two goals he said:
– It feels good. Nice start with two but it’s just a matter of continuing.
Frölunda persevered and won
Frölunda went into the third period with a 5–2 lead. Leksand tried to go forward but FHC defended well. When the final whistle sounded, it was clear that Frölunda had won the first game of the season.
