Basically, Vieth should have entered political science at the University of Oslo (UiO) this year without any problems, as she with first-time diplomafirst-time diplomaIn quota for first-time diploma, you only compete with your school credits. If you have completed upper secondary education and are 21 years of age or younger in the year of admission, your diploma is considered a first-time diploma, and you compete for admission in the quota for first-time diplomas. had a higher score than the year’s score limit.

But it didn’t turn out that way.

Her diploma was not registered as a first-time diploma, and the 19-year-old therefore only competed for places in the ordinary quota. ordinary quota. In this quota you compete on the basis of your competition points. Competition points consist of grade points and any additional points.

– I was completely desperate, and did not understand what had happened, says Vieth.

She immediately contacted UiO, who asked her to contact the school she had attended – Edvard Munch upper secondary school in Oslo.

The school acknowledged that they had made a mistake.

In connection with a change of a grade on Vieth’s diploma, the school had mistakenly not entered the code for first-time diploma on the new diploma.

The error was quickly fixed, but by then it was already too late.

– I honestly felt that the world fell a bit to pieces, says the 19-year-old.

– Unlucky

– This is a desperate case for which we are extremely sorry, all the while it has such consequences for Embla, says rector at Edvard Munch VGS Ellen Lysne, to VG.

She says that the school rectified the mistake immediately when the 19-year-old made contact, and transferred a new diploma to Samordna opptak, which manages admissions to higher education.

– But even if UiO got a new diploma, they could not change the intake, says Lysne.

The rector himself contacted the university, explained what had happened and asked that the mistake not affect Vieth. Nevertheless, UiO could not do anything about the matter.

– It is unfortunate that the admissions system is set up so that it is not possible to correct when the student is innocent, says Lysne, and emphasizes that she does not want to trivialize the mistake the school made.

The department for study administration jobs at UiO tells VG that they cannot comment on individual cases, but that they understand that it is a desperate situation not to get into the study you want.

They state that the routines when, as a result of errors from a third party, they receive documentation after the main admission, they allow the applicant to compete from the time the documentation is available.

Solved in the end

Vieth was told by UiO that the main recording had ended, and that they could not do anything about the situation.

But on the Thursday before the start of studies, it all worked out for the 19-year-old. She entered the study after being on a waiting list.

She is relieved that the problem has been resolved, but is not satisfied with the way the university has handled the matter.

– It would have been much easier to accept if I just wasn’t good enough, she says.
