The Asian powerhouse China is increasingly gaining ground as the world’s largest car exporting country – in the first half of this year, China exported 2.34 million cars, once again surpassing Japan, which has traditionally been the world’s largest car exporting country. The Japanese managed to export 2.02 million cars in the first half of the year.
China previously overtook Japan on a quarterly basis, but this is the first time that China is also ahead of Japan in half-yearly auto export figures. The General Secretary of the China Passenger Car Association, Cui Dongshu, commented on the data, stating that these results are possible thanks to the “explosive growth” in the export of electric cars.
Undeniably, Chinese electric car brands are aggressively expanding, offering their products in Europe as well. We just reported on BYD’s success in Sweden, but Chinese automakers also sell cars elsewhere in Europe. Xpeng and NIO are also actively trying to enter Europe, which are gradually expanding their offer to more and more countries. In this data, we can include not only cars from Chinese automakers, but also, for example, Tesla cars produced in Shanghai, which are not only intended for China, but are also sent to other countries.
