Nooh: Farmer unions and khap panchayats demand arrest of Bajrang Dal activist Monu Manesar in Haryana’s Nooh riots. The organizations also demanded that peace be restored in Nooh in the Maha Panchayat that met on Wednesday.
Condemning the violence, a Mahapanchayat of Khaps, farmers’ unions and religious leaders was organized in Hisar, Haryana. The conference also passed several resolutions calling for peace and unity.
Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs participated in the Maha Panchayat organized by Bharatiya Kisan Mazdoor Union. It was also decided in the meeting that people of all religions will work to restore peace.
50 panchayats of Rewari, Mahendergarh and Jhajjar districts had issued a circular banning Muslim traders. The Maha Panchayat was joined later.
The farmers’ unions also criticized the Haryana government’s handling of the communal riots in Nooh. Meanwhile, some organizations have spoken out in support of the boycott of Muslim traders. Others condemned the violence and demanded Manesar’s arrest. Members of the Jat community demanded Manesar’s arrest and appealed for communal harmony.
The riots broke out in Haryana after the Braj Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra organized by Bajrang Dal and VHP. It was alleged that Manesar’s presence was on the trip. He also shared the provocative video on social media. On February 30, Junaid and Nasir were abducted and beaten to death by Bajrang Dal activists including Monu, accusing them of involvement in cow smuggling.
Meanwhile, PTI reported quoting Haryana State Police Chief PK Aggarwal that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will be formed to probe Manesar’s role in the encounter.
Schools and transport services in Nooh will reopen today after being closed for two weeks due to communal riots. So far, 113 FIRs have been registered and 305 people have been arrested in connection with the conflict.
Six people, including two home guards and a mosque imam, were killed in communal clashes on July 31.
