Gabriela Sabatini praises Carlos Alcaraz’s unbelievable achievements

Gabriela Sabatini: “What Carlos Alcaraz achieves is unbelievable”

Gabriela Sabatini, former WTA number one and 1990 US Open winner, granted an interview to the EFE news agency in which she spoke about the legacy that Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer be left for the next generation.

Gabriela linked the speech to the rise of Carlos Alcaraz. She explained: “It’s a difficult situation. It’s not easy for players of this level to rise and have such longevity.

I’ve seen very few who have the mentality of the Big 3 and can be just as good. A tennis player’s career just keeps getting longer: Roger proved it and Rafa and Novak prove it. It used to be unthinkable to have such a career.

I saw Carlos Alcaraz play in Buenos Aires at the beginning of the season. Everything he achieves is amazing. At Wimbledon he showed his maturity; that maturity that allows you to master a complicated match against an opponent like Djokovic.

We all know his qualities, but he showed something different at Wimbledon.”

The legacy of the Big 3

Roger Federer turned 42 on August 8th. Many tennis insiders and enthusiasts celebrated the Swiss legend’s birthday on social media by posting some of the greatest achievements the Swiss has achieved.

Many images of the epic challenges with the two historical rivals have surfaced on the internet: Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. Challenges that have shaped different eras and contributed to the global growth of tennis.

Just thinking about the future of this great sport and considering that Djokovic and Nadal are in the latter part of their incredible careers, people are constantly looking for the next Big 3.

All answers lead to Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune. However, only the Spaniard has already managed to make his mark at Grand Slam level. In fact, winning the 2022 US Open and defeating Djokovic in the fifth set in the unforgettable Wimbledon final made Alcaraz the youngest number-one player in history. The clash between Carlitos and Nole will take place in Cincinnati and specifically at the US Open.
