Al-Marsad Newspaper: Maria Van Kerkhove, Technical Director of the World Health Organization, revealed the most important information about the Corona strain that bears the name of the EG.5 mutant, which is increasing in spread worldwide, including Britain, the United States and China.
She explained that the new Corona mutant has increased transmissibility, but it is not more severe than other Omicron mutants. According to “Sky News”.

She added, while EG.5 showed increased proliferation, growth advantage, and immune escape characteristics, no changes in disease severity have been reported so far.
The new variant has been detected in 51 countries in total, including South Korea, Japan, Canada, Australia, Singapore, France, Portugal and Spain.
The latest data indicates that this variant now accounts for 17.4 percent of Corona cases, or one in every six infections, which the World Health Organization described as a “significant rise.”
