Quake II Remaster: Enhanced Graphics and Exciting New Content Now Available on Multiple Platforms

Speculations that have swirled for a long time about the possible release of an improved version of the second part of the cult Quake event were confirmed right at the start of this year’s QuakeCon. Bethesda announced, introduced and immediately released Quake II – we note, without any moniker – which is the expected modernized version. And not only on the graphic side, but also on the content side, as not only we wanted. The game is already on sale, you can buy it on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and Switch and you will pay less than 300 crowns for it. That is, assuming you don’t go for the version that’s available as part of a Game Pass subscription.

In terms of graphical improvements, the developers mention support for resolutions up to 4K, the ability to enjoy playing on widescreen monitors, improved models, animation of enemies and their behavior, more blood and gore moments, reworked cutscenes, dynamic lighting, anti-aliasing, depth of field and a steady stream of rock songs from Sonic Mayhem. In other words, a carefully prepared remaster, which is also according to the first video.

But as already mentioned above, it is not only the graphics, but also the content that the developers are rightly attracted to, and we are not necessarily talking about the inclusion of the previously released The Reckoning and Ground Zero mission packs. The developers from MachineGames have prepared a brand new campaign with 28 missions and one deathmatch map – Call of the Machine – which may be the real reason for many veterans to be interested in the remaster. Additionally, everyone will receive Quake II 64 for free with the purchase of the enhanced second volume, so we certainly can’t complain about the amount of content.

In the press release, Bethesda also confirms cooperation for 4 players, either online or locally on a split screen (on the Xbox Series even in eight players in a split screen) and old-fashioned online competitive multiplayer for 16 people or for 4 people playing locally. If you choose to play on PlayStation 5 or Switch, you’ll also be able to rely on gyroscopes to aim. The last piece of information that Bethesda mentions in the press release is also the inclusion in the library of games available through Xbox Cloud Gaming, so there really shouldn’t be anything standing in your way.
