Germany’s U19 Handball Team Falls Short in Quarterfinals against Spain

From the dream for the German U19 handball players at the World Cup in Croatia. The team of national coach Emir Kurtagic lost in the quarterfinals against Spain with 28:32 and has to return home.

The DHB selection had started strongly and was always in the lead. In the middle of the first half, however, the young German players lost the thread and let the opponent pull away.

Above all, it was problematic: Germany was not very effective in attack and was only able to accommodate 39 percent of the throw attempts in the goal.

At half-time, the German selection was already four goals behind. A mortgage that could not be redeemed after the break. Instead, Spain showed itself to be stronger and continued to expand the lead.

Although Germany fought back, it was no longer enough for a win. Best German throwers were Ben Connar Battermann and Marvin Siemer with six goals each.

The players from the Faroe Islands, who had previously defeated Germany in the main round, also experienced disappointment.

The island nation of prodigy Óli Mittún lost to Egypt 34-38 after extra time, with the Faroe Islands still leading by three goals with 80 seconds left. However, Egypt was able to force the extra time and close the sack there.
