Heat wave in Spain: Extreme temperatures and alerts in over 30 provinces

A good part of Spain will suffer today the effects of a heat wave that has activated the alert in more than 30 provinces of two communities, with the forecast that it will reach 45 degrees in Córdoba and Jaén, for which both territories are declared at extreme risk. However, Galicia will be spared. The situation will be normal, being able to reach 33 degrees today in Ourense and 30 in Lugo or 27 in Vigo, which will drop in the next two days.

In addition to the red notice in these Andalusian provinces, the high temperatures will put Cádiz, Granada, Málaga, Seville, the Balearic Islands, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Guadalajara, Toledo, Badajoz, Cáceres, Madrid and Albacete at significant risk (orange), which will also be Yellow alert for storms.

Huesca, Teruel, Zaragoza, Ávila, Burgos, Palencia, Salamanca, Segovia, Soria, Valladolid, Zamora, Barcelona, ​​Girona, Lleida, Murcia, Navarra, La Rioja, Alicante and Valencia will also be affected by the heat wave with a yellow warning .

Temperatures will rise widely today, notably in valleys on the Atlantic slope, while the minimum will drop in areas of the northern third of the peninsula. Except in the extreme north and in areas of the Levante, temperatures will exceed 35ºC in a good part of the Peninsula and in the Balearic Islands, reaching 40ºC in the center and interior parts of the southern half, as well as occasionally in the Ebro, and it could reach at 44/45ºC in the Guadalquivir valley.

In this context, torrid nights are expected, in which the temperature will not drop below 25 degrees in areas of the Guadalquivir valley and on the coasts of Granada and Almería, as well as in parts of Mallorca (Balearic Islands).

Today and tomorrow will be the culminating days of this episode in most of the territory, which by Wednesday the 12th will be reduced due to the probability of cooling in most areas, mainly in the Ebro valley and other areas in the north of the peninsula. as well as in the Balearic Islands, this being less pronounced in the southern third.
