Changing Trends of Reading in the Arab World: Insights from the Weekly Publisher Magazine’s 58th Issue

The “Weekly Publisher” magazine, in its 58th new issue, issued this month, monitored the changing trends of reading in the Arab world, which move from fictional books to realism, especially during crises, such as the Corona pandemic. The magazine’s survey of the opinions of Arab publishers revealed that no less than 70% of the readers are young people, students and young people, and that the majority of them are female.

The new issue included articles and studies, and published an interview with the Djiboutian novelist Abdel Rahman Webiri.

In the editorial of the issue “The Beginning of Speech,” the CEO of the Sharjah Book Authority and Editor-in-Chief, Ahmed bin Rakkad Al-Amiri, wrote, “In every new session of the Sharjah International Book Fair, we work to add new ideas and events within the general program of the exhibition, according to the vision of the Sharjah Cultural Project that It is led, sponsored and supported by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who drew a cultural road map for us through the enlightenment project five decades ago. . Among them came the symposium of the “Weekly Publisher” magazine, which brought together seven writers and researchers, over two days, at the Book Fair last year, announcing the start of preparations for the second symposium within the Book Fair program, next November.

While the managing editor, Ali Al-Amiri, wrote about his journey, which spanned a distance of 31,960 kilometers, back and forth, saying, “It was a long, but exceptional journey, as I saw and experienced the love of Colombians and Venezuelans for Arabs and Arab culture, just as I experienced the cultural, geographical, linguistic, human and natural diversity” in the two countries. He added that “Colombia, Venezuela and all Latin American countries are betting strongly on the strength of culture in all its branches, as it is a cognitive and aesthetic path, as well as its ability to strengthen internal unity and consolidate internal peace, confront problems, and view challenges as a reserve force for society.”
