Reforms envisaged by the transition: The CGD and Labo Citoyenneté lead the reflection in Bobo

The Center for Democratic Governance (CGD) organized a workshop to reflect on the reforms envisaged by the authorities of the transition. It was August 07, 2023 in Bobo-Dioulasso.

It is within the framework of the implementation of the FASOVEIL project “facilitating accountability and citizen monitoring with civil society” that the CGD, in collaboration with Labo Citoyenneté, organized this workshop to reflect on the reforms envisaged by the transitional authorities.

The overall objective of this brainstorming workshop, which brought together opinion leaders on the reforms initiated by the transitional authorities, is to define with them the process and strategy to be implemented in order to achieve consensual reforms, according to Beatrice Sawadogo, coordinator of the FASOVEIL program. “The government has decided to move towards consensual reforms and tours are underway to discuss with the populations. Civil society actors are also in this dynamic to exchange with opinion leaders from different regions in order to have their points of view on the reforms that are underway. At the end of the tour in the different region, a symposium will be organized in Ouagadougou where the different actors will be in order to define a consensual calendar of recommendations”.

During this reflection therefore, it was a question for the opinion leaders to analyze the urgent reforms. These include institutional, administrative, socio-economic and land tenure issues which are, for the most part, less accepted in our societies in order to achieve consensual reforms. Thus, the points of view are divergent for the opinion leaders of Bobo-Dioulasso.

For some, it would be necessary to revise the fundamental law because in a democratic state, the constitution must constantly meet the needs of the population. While for others, it will be necessary for the population to change their mentality in order to adapt to the principles of the constitution, because it will be nice to change the laws and the constitutions, but it will be necessary for each citizen to stop being greedy . It is only after this consultation that we will be able to use the procedures provided for by the constitution to make the choice of reforms.
