In addition to the more than 20 commercial stores that could not open their doors in São Marcos, this Wednesday (9), students in the region were also affected by the criminal attack that set fire to a bus on Rua São Marcosthe main thoroughfare of the neighborhood.
The management of the Municipal School Manoel de Abreu, the Municipal Center for Early Childhood Education (Cmei) Eduardo Freitas, the Municipal School of Pau da Lima and the Creche Primeiro Passo São Marcos suspended activities, according to the Municipal Secretary of Education (Smed) .
In all, 939 students were harmed by the situation of insecurity. According to the Union of Road Workers, buses are circulating normally through the neighborhood.
A bus was destroyed this Wednesday morning (9) after two suspects set fire to the collective that made the Ribeira-Pituaçu line (0203) at 5:30 am. The flames from the vehicle reached the wiring of at least eight poles on the avenue and the establishments were left without power, which made commercial activities in the place impossible.
The Municipal Secretariat for Mobility (Semob) reported that this is the fifth bus burned in 2023 in the capital of Bahia, four of which were completely burned and one of which returned to circulation after having the flames quickly extinguished by road workers.
Considering that each vehicle costs BRL 751,000, the loss for transport companies reaches BRL 3 million. Semob estimates that a burnt-out bus is only replaced after one year, due to the logistics for purchasing, producing and delivering the vehicle.
