Without a doubt, Ileana Badiu is a devastating presence in Romanian showbiz. The star enjoys success on a professional level, but also on a personal level, because she lives a beautiful love story with Cătălin Badiu, a doctor, and they have been married for many years.
Ileana Badiu, the first star to speak openly about menopause
Some time ago, Ileana Badiu declared that at the age of 43 she entered menopause. Then, she says, she initially thought she was suffering from a disease, Alzheimer’s, because she had difficulty remembering certain things, felt tired, had joint pain and many other symptoms that made her consider another diagnosis .
Later, the star found out where all those problems that had turned his life upside down came from.
“For several years, since I myself experienced an early menopause, I decided to speak publicly about this topic, despite the fact that the topic of menopause is still considered to be taboo. By speaking publicly, owning my speech on this topic, I have raised awareness and received dozens of messages over time from women I have helped to either go to the doctor to find out what hormonal stage they are in find themselves, either to go more easily through the period of perimenopause, using the right therapies and supplements, or to come to terms more easily with the idea of menopause in their lives.
I have spoken a lot and assumed about this topic and will continue to do so, because I believe that menopause needs rebranding in such a way that the perception, both of those around and of women themselves, changes, because menopause it only involves the break of the monthly menstruation (which can be a great advantage) by no means a break from femininity, sexuality, energy, joy!”, says Ileana Badiu on her blog.
What problems did he face during this period of his life?
Menopause is the time that marks the end of menstrual cycles. Menopause can occur at age 40 or 50, but the average age is 50. Menopause is a natural biological process. But the physical symptoms, such as hot flashes and emotional symptoms of menopause, can disrupt sleep, reduce energy, or affect emotional health.
Some time ago, Ileana Badiu said what problems she faced during this period of her life.
“1. Brain fogginess.
Not only did I fully experience this symptom, but somehow that’s how I found out that… I entered menopause. Basically, I almost had brain freeze not fogginess, a symptom that appeared suddenly almost from one day to the next, which is why I went for a brain CT to see what I could have… I was 43 years old and I honestly confess that I was seeing Alzheimer’s rather than early menopause, so it felt more natural to go for a CT than to see an endocrinologist. I had my period, but no memory.
In short, I found out that I don’t have a brain tumor, so going further along the logical line, I did some hormonal dosages and found out that I no longer have estrogen. This is why the whole hormonal ecosystem is going to hell! There are remedies! And the body slowly, slowly re-adapts to the lacks and reorients itself in the new circumstances. I learned to write down everything I had to do in an organized way, I took the right supplements to maintain and improve brain function, and by understanding what was going on with my body I didn’t panic that I would be in a complete fog from now on until the end LEARNING
2. Fatigue.
Yeah, ok, I don’t know if it’s from menopause, age or just my hectic life in general, but I’m tired. I have solutions for that too, I go to bed earlier, sleep more, take handfuls of supplements containing coenzyme Q10, green coffee, Garcinia, Ginseng or Rhodiola and when I want to party I take some B’s and work on my mind set daily to always give me a boost of energy.
3. Anxiety.
God help, I didn’t have it in relation to menopause, but maybe also because I spent my anxious episodes on dozens of other topics when I was younger, so that now in adulthood I have other priorities. If you experience this symptom, going to a psychologist, 5 HTP and any therapy you believe in with an open mind helps.
4. Joint pains.
God forbid how nasty they can be! The point is that I also went to the rheumatologist thinking that I was prematurely preparing for some arthrosis. It’s all estrogen to blame. Not him, especially the lack of him. Joint pain is a common symptom during menopause, which is caused by hormonal changes. During and after menopause, estrogen and progesterone levels tend to fluctuate dramatically. This can lead to decreased collagen production, leading to weakening of the muscles around the joints and increased joint inflammation. My solution, supplements of course, turmeric, collagen with polonium and lots and lots of exercise!
5. Decreased libido
With my husband by my side, there’s no way my libido will drop. Kidding! Or not! This thing with the libido has a lot to do with the emotional stimulus you have from your partner, with the way you perceive yourself as a woman during this period. This is also one of the reasons why I think menopause needs rebranding. The statistics are changed, women enter menopause much earlier than their mothers.
This is due to stress, responsibilities, excessive diets, heavy workouts, and the changed hormonal picture is the consequence. Hormonal changes, medical conditions such as depression or anxiety, stress, and relationship problems are some potential causes for decreased desire during menopause. Basically, a vicious circle happens that you can get out of if your mental state is good and your self-esteem is high. Oh and obviously supplements!
6. Insomnia.
This is one of the parameters that hasn’t changed for me because I’ve been an insomniac for about 20 years since I gained momentum in entrepreneurship. I was successful, but I had no sleep. But I take melatonin and that helps, and I’ve learned to enjoy the benefits of waking up early. That way I have time to exercise almost every day and not gain weight.
7. Weight gain.
I didn’t gain weight, but you should know that I “gained weight” or I have periods when I gain weight, especially in the abdomen area, obviously. I struggle with this and have solutions too! They are: sport, food balance, as little carbohydrate as possible and detox. For me, this lifestyle helps me maintain my weight, tone and energy. I do sports almost every day, pretty demanding workouts, I rarely eat wrong and I go to a detox at least twice a year for 7 days. This works for me.
8. Headaches.
I had them at first, so strong that I thought I had a tumor again. I eventually accepted them, took anti-inflammatories by the fistful, and after about a year they went away on their own.
9. Vaginal dryness.
Menopause can cause dryness of the mucous membranes due to low estrogen levels. This is because female hormones such as estrogen are responsible for maintaining moisture in the body and help prevent irritation and inflammation. Low levels of these can lead to dryness of the mucous membranes, such as the lips, mouth and vagina. My mouth is dry, not my vagina, but I honestly don’t know what’s worse. For the vagina there are lubricants for the oral mucosa, but liters of water that I should drink. If I could.
10. Night sweats and hot flashes.
Menopause can affect the way your body controls temperature. Before menopause, hormones are responsible for controlling body temperature and strengthening thermoregulatory mechanisms. As they go through hormonal changes due to menopause, women may experience a loss of their normal ability to regulate their internal temperature. This can lead to feeling excessively cold or hot and excessive sweating throughout the day. I made this preamble to tell you about myself. I’m cold, not hot, and I wrap myself in fur blankets (the soft ones from Zara), obviously I sweat during the night, but that’s also why I have good quality cotton t-shirts, so this symptom doesn’t bother me at all. What bothers me more is the gas bill and the fact that I don’t stop spending money on furs because I’m too cold all the time.
11. Dry skin.
Dry skin? That would be nothing! But you know what makes you literally feel your skin falling off? Effectively it’s like I have a small and evil dwarf that pulls my face (and not only) down to the ground! For me, these were the most obvious symptoms of menopause. And the most disturbing. Dry skin and lost elasticity. Declining estrogen levels can have a profound effect on skin quality. Estrogen plays an important role in maintaining the normal production of collagen that maintains the elasticity and firmness of our skin. When levels drop, it can lead to reduced muscle tone and loss of skin elasticity, so the skin becomes more fragile and wrinkles more quickly. Also, the drop in estrogen can contribute to excessive dryness or flaking of the skin, as well as loss of suppleness. But don’t despair! And we can improve these. Collagen, hylauronic, vit D and vit E, unctuous and suitable creams for mature skin and dozens of dermato-aesthetic treatments to stimulate collagen and elastin.
All in all, menopause is coming anyway. But in our life as women it is not the first bad weather we face, it is another one, and the attitude towards menopause is the most important. We must not let it bring us down, we must fight it, without turning it into the dragon that steals our femininity. Thank God, we live in times where there are billions of solutions for all symptoms, and I tell you with my hand on my heart, that the most important thing is to remain women and enjoy our age to the fullest. We are here, now, and that is the most important thing,” stated Ileana Badiu on her blog.
