In 2022, 83 explosions occurred in Russia, according to Verstka. The publication studied the data of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and came to the conclusion that this is a record number of explosions over the past 10 years. “Despite the fact that in the past ten years there have been terrorist attacks in Russia, and residential buildings have been destroyed due to leaks of domestic gas, the number of explosions annually did not exceed 20, and the number of victims was in the hundreds, not thousands,” notes Nestka.
The statistics of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for 2022 included explosions of residential buildings, warehouses, mines, as well as an explosion on the Crimean bridge in October. In addition, the department takes into account the explosions that occurred as a result of fires, Konstantin Kuznetsov, an expert from the Fire Safety Fund, noted in a commentary to the publication.
However, the most common cause of explosions is an explosive object, that is, a bomb, rocket, mine, grenade, Nestka explains. Explosions for this reason accounted for 55 out of 83 cases in a year. The publication believes that the increase in the number of explosions in 2022 is directly related to hostilities.
