At the request of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) in Sofia, the mayor of the city of General Toshevo was arrested today in connection with an investigation into fraud with subsidies for a project to increase energy efficiency. This was announced by the European Prosecutor’s Office, headed by Laura Köveshi.

Searches were also carried out in the premises of the municipality, in the offices of officials suspected of participation in the investigated crimes. Several witnesses and suspects will be interrogated, the announcement added.

The facts refer to the period 2017-2019.
