After a year, we will see a beautiful heavenly spectacle again. We can already observe the meteor shower known as the Perseids. However, the best shooting stars will be seen on the weekend, when the swarm will be at its peak.
The Perseids can be seen in the sky every year from mid-July to approximately the end of August. “However, most of them fall around the maximum, which this year will occur on the morning of Sunday, August 13. Because after the maximum, the activity drops sharply,” explained astronomers from Institute of Physics in Opava.
The best time to observe the meteor shower will be the night from Saturday, August 12 to Sunday, August 13. “Between midnight and four in the morning, approximately 80 meteors shine every hour, of which 10 to 20 can be really bright,” the experts added.
According to astronomers, the conditions are absolutely ideal this year. “In the sky, the Moon will be in the phase of a narrow crescent, which only rises early in the morning and will not disturb much with its light. It will therefore be possible to see even the faintest meteors,” the experts outlined.
If you want to enjoy the experience properly, astronomers recommend leaving big cities and places with a lot of light, at least a few tens of kilometers away. It is also good to have the best possible view in all directions.
“It is best to observe the phenomenon while lying down, for example in a sleeping bag or on a lounger. You don’t need a telescope to observe the phenomenon, meteors randomly fly all over the sky and are distinct enough to be seen with the naked eye,” experts advised.
In addition, the weather forecast for the weekend also looks favorable. The sky will be cloudy to partly cloudy at first, but will clear up eventually. You can learn more in this article on TN.cz.
