A team of researchers from the Russian Antarctic Expedition of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI), together with the Agrophysical Research Institute and the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences carried out the experiment. They tried to grow it in a greenhouse.
The greenhouse built at the Vostok station was made with the aim of increasing the temperature and humidity of the air. With so expected watermelons can grow well.

Two varieties that had matured before were selected for planting. The reason is because the watermelon can adapt to low atmospheric pressure and little oxygen.
Watermelon seeds are planted in a thin layer of soil substitute. The research team also made a special light as a substitute for sunlight.
To replace the task of insects, the research team is also tasked with directly pollinating all plants.
It turns out that the watermelon grows ripe and sweet. The research team managed to produce eight seeds after 103 days of planting the seeds.
