Parliamentary elections will be held in Iran

Parliamentary elections will be held in Iran for the first time after the protests that started with the death of Mahsa Amini and spread throughout the country. SIA reports with reference to foreign media that the registration of candidates for the parliamentary elections, which will be held for the first time after the protests in Iran, has started.

Candidates have been given a week to register online as the first step in the process before the general elections in March next year. Each candidate who applies must be approved by the 12-member Constitutional Protection Council, half of whose members are directly appointed by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. It was reported that the participation in the last elections held in 2020 was around 42 percent. This is the lowest phase since 1979.
