Protests in Imphal: Assam Rifles Relocated from Lamkai Check Point Following Meitei Sect’s Demand

Imphal: Assam Rifles shifted from Lamkai check point in Bishnapur following protest by Meitei sect. CRPF and Police have been given the responsibility of security instead. Earlier, Meithei women had protested demanding that the Assam Rifles be excluded from the check point.

The Meitei women, who blocked the road at various places in Imphal, alleged brutality by paramilitary forces. Assam Rifles was relieved of duty at the check point by the ADGP. A video of Kuki women asking the Assam Rifles not to leave Manipur went viral earlier.

In Manipur, where the riots did not end, the Assam Rifles, a paramilitary unit, and the Manipur Police had come out hiding the differences. Manipur Police had filed a case against the Assam Rifles for allegedly stopping the police vehicle. The security forces responded that the action of the police is a mockery of justice.
