The family of mother-of-two Ashley Summers (35) is in deep mourning after the tragic death that took place on the USA’s national day, July 4.
The 35-year-old was celebrating the big day in the state of Indiana when she felt very dehydrated, her brother Devon Miller told Good Morning America.
– During the day she got a terrible headache, and therefore drank a lot of water, explains Miller.
Didn’t drink water for six years
– Passed out in the garage
According to the brother, the sister must have drunk 16 small bottles of water – a total of just under two liters – within 20 minutes.
When she got home after the celebration, things went wrong:
– She was dizzy and still had a headache. When they got home, she passed out on the way from the garage to the house, says Miller to Good Morning America.

He explains that the family must have been told that the sister died of water poisoning, which is a rare but very serious condition.
Water poisoning can occur if you take in too much water in a very short time.
According to Major medical encyclopedias typical symptoms are confusion, restlessness, as well as unconsciousness in severe cases.
Influenza died after breast surgery
The excessive water intake causes the body to have an underbalance of important substances, especially electrolytes, magnesium and calcium.
The condition is treated by injecting saline solutions intravenously, in severe cases in combination with diuretic drugs.

– A second chance
Devon Miller believes the sister could have survived if she had spread her water intake over a longer period.
Now he and the rest of the family take comfort in the fact that she was an organ donor, and that other people have now benefited from her organs.
Sandra’s message before she dies
– They have received her heart, lungs, liver, kidneys and bone tissue. Five people have been given a second chance because of her generous donation, says the brother to Good Morning America.
