Rare Find: 16-Year-Old BMW M6 Sells for Double Its Market Value

It may seem that there is nothing special on sale. And this is not so, the car is 16 years old, it managed to sell for twice as much as an M6 of this age usually costs.

BMW is slowly but surely reducing sales of the 6 Series almost everywhere in the world. Slow sales and the risk of cannibalization of the new 8 Series are the reasons that convinced the Munich carmaker to abandon it. The last of the M6 saw the light of day in 2018. The M8 took its place just a few months later.

But the old (actually not that old) Series 6 lives on. And, apparently, the cost of the M version of the 6 Series has risen over the years as the car approaches the status of a classic young car (youngtimer).

So we’re dealing with a BMW M6 that rolled off the assembly line 16 years ago, the first year of production of the E63 generation. It arrived after a 16-year hiatus from production, emulating the iconic E24 M6 of the 1980s.

BMW placed the powerful 5.0-liter V10 S85 engine under this sculpted hood and paired it with an SMG-III automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The V10 produced 500 horsepower and 520 Nm directed to the rear axle.

In 2005-2011, the E63 remained in production. The last series went on sale in 2011. During its five years of production, the BMW model sold 9,097 coupes and 5,065 convertibles.

M6 E63 could accelerate to 100 km / h in 4.6 seconds. Top speed was electronically limited to 250 km/h. The optional M Driver’s Package raised the speedometer to 305 km/h.

Is this car capable of achieving such performance? For all his life he had three owners, and now he has found a fourth. He traveled only 23,500 km. It rides on 19-inch twin-spoke alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport tires.

Equipment list includes factory front and rear parking assistance, cruise control, heated and electronically adjustable front seats, dual-zone air conditioning and satellite navigation.

The seller said that the car was completely repainted. It showed some minor paint imperfections. There was a slight wear on the steering wheel buttons. As for mechanical faults, the seller was not aware of them.

The car was for sale in Greenham, the Netherlands and went to a new owner after he fell in love with it and paid $40,000. This is an incredibly high price for such a model. BMW M6s from that era cost roughly $20,000.
