Decline in Performance of Indonesian Women’s Doubles – Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti

Jakarta

Indonesia’s mainstay women’s doubles Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti decreased in the last six months. Their performance is not good.

This was conveyed by the women’s doubles coach Eng Hian in evaluating the performance of its athletes upon their return from the 2023 Australian Open.

The Red and White women’s doubles were recorded as sending two representatives in the international badminton super 500 tournament, namely Apri/Fadia and Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi.

Unfortunately, both of them were eliminated in the second round. April/Fadia who is the seventh seed in the Australian Open, lost to Benyapa Aimsaard/Nuntakarn Aimsaard (Thailand) 19-21, 21-23. Meanwhile, Ana/Tiwi lost to Japanese representatives Rena Miyaura/Ayako Sakuramoto 21-17, 11-21.

“The results of the women’s doubles players at the 2023 Australian Open did not meet expectations. Apri/Fadia and Ana/Tiwi have not been able to display a proud achievement. It is proven that these two pairs have been eliminated in the second round,” said Eng Hian in his statement.

Not only was he not proud, Koh Didi, as Eng Hian is affectionately known, specifically highlighted Apri/Fadia’s progress which had continued to decline in recent months.

Since becoming a semifinalist at the Swiss Open last March, April/Fadia indeed has not even achieved the best results during the last six months. Even if compared to last season, at least they won two championships and runners up. Namely at the Singapore Open and Malaysia Open, as well as the Indonesia Masters 2022.

“Both of them have not been able to show their best performance. The good capacity shown during preparation in training seems to have disappeared and cannot be realized in matches. I can say, from the quality and capacity of the training results, it seems that only 30 percent appear or are shown in matches,” Eng Hian disclose.

Eng Hian admits that they are still looking for what is the cause of the problems of the athletes and hopes that the answers can be found soon so that the athlete’s performance can return to how it was from the start.

“Of course it takes time to answer. Are they now afraid of losing, haven’t found the answer yet. Right now Apri/Fadia is again looking for the best form of play, starting from technique and from the mentality of fighting,” said Eng Hian.

“They are expected to perform to their best performance like when they first paired up and appeared in international tournaments,” he hoped.
