While Apple has included fast charging on many of its products, the gadget lineup hasn’t been as lucky, but the company is finally stepping up its game, starting with the Apple Watch.according to AppleInsider Citing a report from accessory suppliers, the company has begun asking third-party accessory makers to adopt the Apple Watch’s faster charging module.

When Apple announced the Apple Watch Series 7, it simultaneously launched a faster charging module, making it charge 33% faster than the previous generation. This is thanks to the C962 fast charging module, which promises to charge the watch to 80% in just 45 minutes. The Apple support document also confirms that all third-party USB-C chargers require at least a 5W transformer to support forced trigger fast charging. The latter isn’t always possible, however, as Apple faces a supply crunch and keeps supplying third-party accessory makers with older and slower C192 modules in Apple’s MFi certification program. The supply troubles seem to be over for now, so Apple is starting to push all accessory brands to adopt faster charging modules for the Apple Watch.
According to reports, Apple has told accessory manufacturers that they have until August 31, 2023 to ship plans for products that still contain the old C162 charging module, and will stop accepting orders for the same before September 30, which is the same as Apple The announcement of Watch Series 9 roughly coincides. After that, all MFi-certified Apple Watch chargers will be equipped with faster charging pads. While this appears to be good news on the surface, it may indirectly lead to higher prices for third-party charging accessories. Additionally, not all smartwatches benefit from fast charging, as only the Apple Watch Series 7 and newer models support fast charging.
The Apple Watch Series 9 will reportedly look the same as the Apple Watch Series 8, with slim bezels and curved glass edges.
