At the age of 87, the American film director, film producer and screenwriter William Friedkin, whose film “The Exorcist” shocked and surprised the audience and became a revolution in the genre of horror films, died on Monday in Los Angeles.
Friedkin gained wider fame with the action film “The French Connection”, which was released in 1971 and received widespread critical acclaim. The film won five Oscars, including Best Picture, while Friedkin won Best Director.
However, his film “The Exorcist”, which was released in 1973, achieved the greatest commercial success.
Friedkin’s latest film, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival next month.
