Boil Water Advisory Issued for Doorn Village Residents Due to Contamination Concerns

The approximately four thousand households in the Utrecht village of Doorn are advised to boil their drinking water on Wednesday. The result of the test for enterococci in the water is only then expected.

Contamination with enterococci was found in two reservoirs for the village’s drinking water. In principle, the bacteria are not dangerous for healthy people, but can cause stomach and intestinal complaints in people with reduced resistance.

The reservoirs have been thoroughly cleaned, Vitens reports. According to the water company, the contamination is not in the pipeline network.

We are now waiting for the results of the breeding test. It was taken after the rapid test indicated contamination last week. The culture test provides the company with more information about the contamination. “Only when these cultivation tests also show that there is no longer any contamination, Vitens will withdraw a cooking advice,” the company writes in an email.

Until then, residents are advised to boil the water for three minutes before consuming it. They can just wash their hands, take a shower or go to the toilet.
