The draw for the qualification of the European Masters is scheduled for Tuesday, August 8, and it will start at 12.30 Latvian time.
32 national teams will participate in the qualification, of which 24 teams will enter the final tournament. Also, the national teams that will host the final tournament – Latvia, Cyprus, Poland and Finland, which are already guaranteed participation in the European Championship – will start in the qualification outside of the competition.
In the draw, the teams will be divided into eight groups of four teams each. Three teams will enter the finals from the subgroups that do not have one of the hosts of the European Championship, but two teams will get tickets from the subgroups that include one of the hosts of the championships.
Teams in the fourth bracket may be drawn together with units from the first (Spain, France, Serbia, Slovenia), fifth (Belgium, Georgia, Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina) and eighth (Portugal, Denmark, Slovakia, Cyprus). Therefore, it is clear that in the qualification, in which Latvia participates only for sparring purposes, it will be possible to play two games against one of the strongest teams in Europe.
On the other hand, the teams of the second basket (Lithuania, Greece, Italy, Germany) will be drawn together with the teams of the third basket (Czech Republic, Poland, Turkey, Montenegro), the sixth basket (Hungary, Estonia, the Netherlands, Bulgaria) and the seventh basket (Great Britain, Iceland, Sweden , North Macedonia).
No more than one of the hosts of the European Championship can be drawn in one subgroup. The first qualifying window is scheduled for 2024 from February 19 to 27, the second will be from November 18 to 26 in 2024, and the final matches will be played in 2025 from February 17 to 25.
In the 2025 championship, the subgroup tournaments will take place from August 27 to September 14 in Finland, Cyprus, Poland and Latvia, which will also host the final stage of the championship.
In Latvia, the championship matches will be played in Riga, in Cyprus – in Limassol, in Finland – in Tampere, while the candidate city of Katowice in Poland was approved on Friday by the Board of the FIBA European Division.
