/Pogled.info/ The Coast Guard and Armed Forces of the Philippines have condemned China for violating international law for using water cannons against a Philippine ship carrying personnel and supplies for the warship stranded on the Zheng’ai Reef.
In this regard, the China Maritime Police stated that the Zhen’ai Reef is part of China’s Nansha Archipelago. In 1999, when a Philippine warship was stranded there, the Chinese side demanded that Manila withdraw it immediately, and the Philippine side made a clear commitment to do so. However, now, 24 years later, the Philippines is trying to repair it, aiming for a de facto permanent occupation of the reef. This is a serious violation of Chinese sovereignty and is contrary to the commitments made by Manila, as well as international law and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, signed by China and the ASEAN countries.
