PDI Perjuangan Politician Reflects on Meeting with Prabowo Subianto After 25 Years

PDI Perjuangan politicians (PDIP) Budiman Sudjatmiko admitted that he needed 25 years of contemplation before finally deciding to meet with the Gerindra Party presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto. He also brought up the history of the New Order.

Budiman explained that he and Prabowo had faced each other during the process of overthrowing the New Order, at that time he was an activist and Prabowo was a TNI soldier. The meeting with Prabowo on Tuesday (18/7) evening was his own initiative.

“It took me 25 years to contemplate and in the end I decided, okay I met Pak Prabowo Subianto. Why? I was made aware that in the end what we did, what we experienced, to quote Bung Ikhyar’s words earlier was in the past In the New Order, the state tasks and historical tasks clashed, the state tasks and historical tasks in the New Order were contradictory and that was wrong, the state duties should not go against historical tasks, because a country must develop according to the demands of the times and history,” said Budiman Sudjatmiko was reported by detikSumut, Monday (7/8/2023).

Budiman then admitted that he pondered a lot in his mind regarding the absence of feelings of anger and revenge towards those who had been his opponents when he was an activist during the New Order era. He even mentioned having been sentenced to 13 years in prison at that time.

“One of them is like this, ‘why when I meet people who have confronted me, confronted me, both those who arrested me in the past, whether those who interrogated me, whether the judge who sentenced me to 13 years in prison, whether This is the person who once leaked out where I was hiding so that my friends and I were arrested and finally I was sentenced to 13 years in prison. Why is it that when I met you, Tuan Guru, how come I never had a hint of anger and revenge,” he said.

Budiman also brought up the contemplation that started since he was last arrested in 1996. He admits that he has been arrested at least 6 times since he was in high school. However, he emphasized that there was never any grudge against his opponents at that time.

“So after I have checked for 25 years, that I have never had a grudge against my opponents, I am sure that bismillahirrahmanirrahim is the way. Previously, we fought because of a historical assignment, now we are also friends because of a historical assignment. Thank you,” he said.
