It consists of only four letters.
Many Russians have seen a strange combination of four letters that they wrote on the walls and in any other places where there are a lot of people. These are only four letters “USHATS”. If they met only in life, one could write them off as raging vandals, but the “spell” roamed the frames of various films.
It can be especially often found in the paintings of George Danelia. For example, in the films “Afonya”, “Don’t Cry”, “Completely Lost”. An inscription also appears in Dunno on the Moon. However, the mysterious USHATS is not an abbreviation or a ritual symbol, but a surname.
Once upon a time, the cartoonist Mikhail Ushats studied at the Moscow Architectural Institute, who had the habit of signing not only his works, but all his things. However, when the student’s name appeared on the most comfortable easel in the audience for drawing from life, his fellow students were indignant and decided to teach the “subscriber” a lesson. Then already all the easels flaunted the inscription “USHATS”. And then the joke left the walls of the educational institution and spread, because many university graduates went to work in the cinema.
