AThe “Waldviertler Chortag” and the “Carmina Austriaca” on Saturday, September 2 can be described as absolute novelties in the cultural offering of the festival.
After the performances of the Verdi opera “Aida” under the direction of artistic director Johannes Wildner, the “Waldviertler Chortag” on September 2 can be described as the second highlight of the Burg Gars opera with a clear conscience. A similar event took place in 2019.
With the scenic cantata “Carmina Burana” with texts in Middle Latin and Middle High German, Carl Orff created a beacon in global concert life around 90 years ago. As the Austrian counterpart, the state of Lower Austria has commissioned the writer and music historian Michael Korth and the composer Gerald Wirth to make Austria’s medieval love songs audible in a new way. The result, the “Carmina Austriaca” is premiered as a new version in Gars.
On the first Saturday in September, Gars Castle is the scene of an absolute novelty in the festival’s cultural offerings. For more than 150 choristers, the evening performance of the two works will be the highlight of the “Waldviertler Chortag” after the “Carmina” was worked on in a day-long seminar with the choir of the Burg Gars Opera.
The cost of the workshop is 50 euros and includes two times three rehearsal hours, sheet music, lunch and a cake buffet. Info and registration at www.operburggars.at/waldviertler-chortag/
