Lionel Messi scored two goals in the third match in a row at Inter’s new home in Miami and helped the Florida team to the quarter-finals of the Leagues Cup.
In Sunday’s duel with home team Dallas, the Argentine world champion first opened the scoring six minutes after the start and five minutes before the end with a free kick to equalize the final 4:4. He sent the match to a penalty shoot-out, which he himself successfully started, and because, unlike the opponent, all his teammates, including Sergio Busquets, succeeded, and Inter celebrated progress.
Messi has scored seven goals in four games since joining Inter. He also scored twice in the previous matches of the cup competition designed for clubs from MLS and the Mexican Liga MX against Atlanta (4:0) and Orlando (3:1).
On his debut against Mexico’s Cruz Azul, he decided a 2-1 win in the set-up with a superbly played free-kick and now in his first game in a new role away from home, he similarly secured an equaliser.
His team was already losing 2-4 in the second half, but the Florida team came close after Marco Farfan headed Messi’s cross into his own net.
Five minutes later, the Argentinian striker scored from twenty meters. The first goal of Sunday’s duel was scored by Messi after a pass from another former teammate from Barcelona, Jordi Alba.
