President Jokowi Inaugurates Jakarta’s New Indoor Multifunction Stadium

Jakarta

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the Indoor Multifunction Stadium (IMS) in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area, Jakarta. The largest indoor stadium in Indonesia costs IDR 640 billion and can accommodate 16 thousand spectators.

Jokowi said the stadium was used for sporting events, such as basketball, volleyball, futsal, and music concerts. In fact, he invited those who wanted to organize a concert to register immediately.

“So now those who want concerts, please register immediately. Because I’m sure there will be a lot of them, more will be used for concerts. I’d prefer to use them for sports, but concerts are also important,” Jokowi said when inaugurating the stadium in Jakarta, Monday ( 7/8/2023).

The presence of IMS is expected to accommodate national and international events in Indonesia. IMS also complements Indonesia’s indoor stadium, which according to Jokowi has met good standards.

Jokowi also hopes that this stadium can provide added value to the economy. According to him, the events held at a later date will help the economy cycle.

“Every time there is an event, there must be a circulation of money, a circulation of the economy. Every time there is a concert, there must be a circulation of money, an economic circulation. Be it above, in the middle, below, everything. Don’t see that concert sporting events have no economic effect, they have an economic effect,” he explained .

In detikcom’s notes, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) said that this stadium will be used as the venue for the FIBA World Cup from 25 August to 10 September 2023. Indonesia will co-host with Japan and the Philippines.

“With a building area of 50,398 m2 and able to accommodate 16,000 spectators,” Quoted from the Ministry of PUPR’s statement via its Instagram account @kemenpupr, Thursday (6/7/2023)

IMS itself is located in Block 10 of the Gelora Bung Karno Region (GBK) Senayan in Jakarta. This stadium stands on an area of 31,826 m2 owned by the Ministry of State Secretariat and is under the management of the Bung Karno Sports Complex Management Center (PPKGBK).
