An Apple-1 computer from the first series, also signed by Steve Wozniak, is now up for auction.

It is said that Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs built around 200 Apple-1 computers in their garage in Los Altos, California. And in 1976 and 1977 they sold about 175 of them.

Now one of them has been put up for auction. According to the auction house, Jobs tried to sell the computers to The Byte Shop in Mountain View, and the owner agreed to buy 50 of them. But only if they were delivered fully assembled! This made the Apple-1 the first computer that the buyer did not have to solder together themselves… It still had to be delivered with a power supply, case, keyboard and screen, of course. But it was the next model, the Apple-2, that revolutionized the computer industry.

The owner of the machine bought it in 1980 and used it throughout the 1980s. It has since been refurbished and is still working. The computer is particularly interesting because Apple co-founder “Woz” signed it at an event in 2017.
The auction runs until August 24 and is expected to bring in around $200,000. At the time of writing, the highest bid has already reached $162,560, so it won’t surprise us if it goes for a higher amount.
