What happens to your body when you take aspirin?

“Aspirin tablets seem simple and harmless, but they play a complex role in the body, affecting both negatively and positively,” said Dr. David Cutler, MD, Providence Saint John’s Health Center in the USA.

Although aspirin prevents strokes, strokes and heart attacks, it does have some risks of bleeding and other side effects, says Cutler.

He continued, “The elderly are more at risk of bleeding and stomach ulcers, as these side effects fall within the risks of liquidity medications and pain relievers.”

“When you take aspirin, the protective layer in the stomach decreases, and the person becomes more susceptible to bleeding and stomach ulcers,” said Dr. Mark Vendrick, a professor at the University of Michigan Medical School.

Meanwhile, health experts have confirmed that some people can benefit from taking aspirin, specifically those with high blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol.

Aspirin also prevents colon cancer and dementia in people with a family history of these diseases.
