the essentials in brief
The Schlümpfli daycare center in Zurich-Altstetten is run by Scientology supporters. Experts are critical of this. Scientology has a permit from the city for the daycare center.
Up to twelve children are cared for in the Schlümpfli daycare center. The crèche is located in Zurich-Altstetten and, according to its website, is a “place full of laughter, adventure and imagination”. So far so good.
Only this is led by Scientology followers, as the “SonntagsBlick” reports. That raises some questions.
This is also the case with the free anti-Scientology activists: “What is Scientology doing in public childcare?” they write in a blog.

The day-care center, which has an operating permit, is not supported by city subsidies. There are no legal requirements for religious or political orientation of such offers.
Cult expert: “Intransparent and problematic”
Cult expert Georg Schmid, head of the evangelical information center Relinfo, is also critical of the daycare center. For him it is important that the crèche clearly communicates its religious ties.
As of today, this is not the case. “It’s non-transparent and problematic,” says Schmid. He fears that the children there will be raised “in an ideological bubble”.
Does your child go to daycare?
The operators of the day-care center explain that they would primarily adhere to the state requirements. The children would learn “independence and independent thinking”. The Schlümpfli is “oriented towards diversity”.
According to the operators, the notice that the day-care center is looked after by Scientology followers will soon be noted on their website.
