Maurice Steijn has mixed feelings about Ajax’s defeat at Borussia Dortmund (3-1). The trainer of the team from Amsterdam saw good field play at times, but again saw things go wrong in the decisive phases. The 49-year-old coach also gave an update on Eduard Spertsyan and Josip Sutalo.

“We ourselves did not intervene well enough in the chances against and we have to be more effective in finishing,” said Steijn afterwards in front of the Ziggo Sport camera. “We have only appeared in front of the keeper three, four, five times. We have also had that in the previous exhibition games: with a tie, we missed the biggest chance and the other side we got our ears.”
Steijn was pleased with the danger that Ajax managed to create against the German top club. “We played well against such a team. We created a lot. The supporters deserve a compliment for how they stood behind it until the end,” Steijn continues, who explains where he draws confidence towards Heracles Almelo next Saturday. “I get confidence from creating opportunities. We put good pressure on them, force them to make mistakes a few times. You see a team that fights for each other, with interaction with the public. Then it can only get better.”

Spertsyan en Sutalo
Afterwards, Steijn was asked at the press conference about two players who have been linked to Ajax for some time. The trainer of the team from Amsterdam has already given up hope on Spertsyan, but he still has good hopes about Sutalo. “The player would like to go to Ajax,” said Steijn, quoted by Football International.
