During the World Youth Day, many young people active in digital media participated in the Catholic Opinion Leaders Festival in Lisbon on the evening of Friday, August 4th. The event, promoted by the Congregation for Communication of the Holy See, was also attended by Cardinal Rodriguez Maradiaga.
(Vatican News.com) With songs, dances and testimonies, the first festival of Catholic opinion leaders took place on the stage of the World Youth Festival in Lisbon. Many young Catholic opinion leaders who are active in the digital world discussed the future of Catholic communication, the need to “advance with the times” and the need to make good use of digital media to spread the joy of the Gospel in the interactive park of the World Youth Day. Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga, Archbishop Emeritus of Tegucigalpa, was also with them.
Mgr Lucio Adrian Ruiz, Secretary of the Congregation for Communication of the Holy See, welcomed those present and invited them to move forward with courage and creativity. “May you be united, as the disciples went out two by two.” Then, Msgr. Ruiz urged the young people to always remain united with the bishop, “so that we can become ‘one’ Church as Jesus expected”. The young people who attended the meeting received the gift from the Pope with this blessing.
The young Jonathan Romie who witnessed that night played Jesus in the movie “The Preselected”. He shares his faith and how it helps him perform in the film. Another witness, Pitter di Laura, explained to other young people that as an opinion leader belonging to God, one should not only think for oneself, but serve everyone.
Cardinal Rodriguez Maradiaga leads prayers at the gathering. “What a joy it is that we are finally reunited and upholding our mission in the field of digital media!” Bishop Ruiz asked the cardinal to bless the digital media and its evangelizers, inviting everyone present to turn on their mobile phones Lamp, symbolizing the light of digital media. As a result, many mobile phones illuminated the silent night, and opinion leaders received blessings under the little lights. The event ends with music, singing and dancing.
