The head of the Suez Canal Authority, Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, announced today, Sunday afternoon, the continuation of the process of extracting the locomotive “Fahd” by means of the “rescue” crane, and the evacuation of the canal’s navigational passage.

The head of the authority stated, in a statement, that the organization of the navigation movement in the canal witnesses the prioritization of the entry of ships from both directions, in a way that guarantees the conduct of rescue work and does not impede navigation.

He added, “Today, the navigation movement in the canal is witnessing the crossing of 38 ships from the north direction, with a total tonnage of 2.6 million tons, while in the evening, 45 ships cross from the south direction in the new navigational course of the canal, with a total tonnage of 2.7 million tons.”

He pointed out that the marine rescue team is continuing its diving work at a depth of 24 meters through successive groups to complete the work of mooring the sunken locomotive by means of the “rescue” crane wires, a process that requires high accuracy and sufficient time, as it takes nearly an hour and a half to connect one wire for each. of the eight wires of the lever.

He added that the work of connecting the sunken locomotive with the crane wires is scheduled to be completed within the coming hours, after which the work of lifting and removing the sunken locomotive and transporting it to the Al-Balah region will begin immediately.

The total length of the salvage crane is 60.9 meters, and its width is 26.6 meters, with a load of 500 tons. It is used in the work of raising and lowering marine units and floating and recovering sunken marine units.
