The Bulgarian embassy condemned the behavior of the resident who took down a flag in Greece

The Bulgarian embassy in Athens condemned the behavior of the Bulgarian who was detained in Kavala after taking down the Greek flag at the port in the northern Greek city.

The behavior of the person in question during his stay in Kavala on August 4 and 5 of this year. is absolutely unacceptable and in complete contradiction to the excellent good-neighborly relations between Bulgaria and Greece, as well as in the context of the membership of our two neighboring and friendly countries in the European Union, stated in a comment for the Greek agency ANA-MPA from the Bulgarian Embassy in Athens, provided to BTA.

Greek media reported yesterday that a 35-year-old Bulgarian man was detained at the port of Kavala after taking down the Greek flag, raising a Bulgarian flag and shouting: “This is Bulgaria.”

The embassy specifies in the comment that the person was detained by the Greek police immediately after carrying out his illegal act at the port of Kavala.

After his detention and questioning by the police, he was released by the supervising prosecutor under clearly defined conditions. Violating these conditions, the person traveled by car in the direction of Bulgaria. At the Ilinden-Eksohi border crossing, the person was detained by the Bulgarian police authorities. After being questioned by the police, the person was released pending any subsequent police or court proceedings, the embassy said.

The person has a previous conviction in Bulgaria for driving a car after consuming alcohol, adds the Bulgarian Embassy in Athens.

The arrested man was involved in a similar incident before.

The 35-year-old man stated that he is a member of a Bulgarian extremist organization that believes that Kavala and its surroundings do not belong to Greece, but to Bulgaria.
