A man is killed after police open fire on Roosevelt Island.
The incident occurred on Main Street around 11:30 last night. The scene was recorded and posted on Citizen App.
Police responded to an emergency for a 21-year-old man threatening a family member with a knife.
The caller was a relative who said the suspect was not taking his medication.
When officers arrived, the individual threatened one of his family members with a knife before attacking the others.
The police spokeswoman said the officers inside the elevator attempted to use an electro-shock weapon and also discharged their firearm at the suspect.
Officers helped the man until they could take him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
This is the knife recovered at the scene.
No police or other civilians were injured during this incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
