What’s it called in English? We’re not in Kansas anymore. In other words: Where SC Preußen Münster is now, it’s different than before. The usual rules no longer apply. For example, that the SCP with many chances wins in the end, of course. And it doesn’t work that way in the 3rd division. Not even in the 0-0 draw against the Borussia Dortmund U23s.
The good news: nobody was really surprised on Saturday. In front of 11,744 spectators in the officially sold-out Preussenstadion (more were simply not allowed in), SC Preussen had chances of 3 points, but ultimately failed due to the exploitation of their chances. You almost didn’t know that from the regional league anymore.
In nice summer weather things could have gotten tricky after just a few seconds because Dortmund’s Mario Suver cleared Joel Grodowski from Prussia rather roughly – and that didn’t result in a free kick, not even a yellow card. And after looking through the TV pictures, that was quite the wrong decision. But how it is with scenes like this: Had, ifs and buts.
Both teams got two really good chances as a result: Michael Eberwein slammed the ball centrally over the Prussian goal. But Prussia’s answer was even better: Gerrit Wegkamp hit the crossbar with his head, from where the ball bounced back into the field.

These were all scenes from the early stages of the game, which then largely took place in midfield. The SCP defended compactly, the zero should be there – that only happened during the entire preparation against Damme. And to anticipate that: Defensively, the SCP allowed almost nothing. The absolutely outstanding Thomas Kok cleared everything with Simon Scherder and Alexander Hahn, also because the SCP worked well overall. The SCP destroyed some possible chances himself with unclean passes. But the good news was that the Prussians got into these areas at all.
The 0-0 at the break was okay, the quality of the BVB-U23 was clearly visible. It’s different times than in the regional league…
After the change, the SCP got noticeably more opportunities, also because the team shifted up a gear. Yassine Bouchama played a part in this, as the former Homberger was an invigorating element after coming on. But new signing Sebastian Mrowca also quickly took on responsibility.

Onlookers at the game included ex-Prussians Arne Barez and author Dietrich Schulze-Marmeling.
Thomas Kok led the SCP as captain on behalf of Marc Lorenz to the field. The injured captain was, however, a conversation partner at MagentaSport. For the first time, the DFB placed a fourth official on the sidelines. The scoreboard in the Preußenstadion has received a visual update and now finally shows more appealing graphics than last season
This led to sometimes good advances over the sides, but unfortunately not always to good conclusions. But chances were there, some even. Malik. Batmaz, a late substitute for Joel Grodowski, still had a great chance of winning late on, but failed.
It would have been the height if BVB had scored in one of its very rare advances, but Max Schulze Niehues parried the best scene of the guests in the Preußentor.
Thomas Kok missed the last chance for the SCP in stoppage time with a shot from the turn, but the defense chief couldn’t get enough pressure behind it. Then it was over.
Applause for a good performance by the SCP, but probably also the realization that an assault through this league is not on the agenda. The reaction of the audience indicated, however, that this is also understood.
