Egypt has restored natural gas supplies at its usual level to fertilizer factories, after it reduced it by about 20% for several days during the past two weeks to some urea-producing factories, according to 3 people from government agencies who spoke to East Economy.
The reduction of gas to factories came as one of the quick solutions available to contribute to solving the electricity crisis that Egypt has been suffering from for about two weeks for the first time in 2014, due to the failure to provide the necessary needs of petroleum materials for the electricity networks.
An informed person explained to “East Economy” that “the period in which gas was reduced by about 20% will not affect the profits of our fertilizer companies due to the presence of the necessary stock of production.”
The Ministry of Electricity needs daily about 135 million cubic meters of gas and 10,000 tons of diesel fuel until the frequent outages end and the electrical loads are reduced throughout Egypt, according to a government official who spoke to East Economy earlier, stressing that if these quantities are available, Egypt will close the page of power outages. Permanently.
