Double Homicide: Grandmother, Grandson Found Dead at San Jose Home
SAN JOSE — The San Jose police department is investigating the deaths of a grandmother and her 6-year-old grandson, who were found dead inside a home on Parkmoor Avenue on Friday afternoon. The incident is being treated as a double homicide.
Officers responded to a welfare check at the residence located on the 1600 block of Parkmoor Avenue in the Buena Vista neighborhood of West San Jose. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless bodies of the woman and her grandson.
Neighbor Jose Sanchez, who has lived in the area for years, recounted hearing distressing cries around noon. “I would say, around 12 or 12:30 p.m., I heard yelling like ‘He’s dead! He’s dead!'” Sanchez told KPIX. The news of the double homicide shocked him and the community.
The Vista apartment complex where the incident occurred was quickly surrounded by officers, who established a command center. A KPIX helicopter captured footage of the scene, which runs parallel to Interstate 280.
Sanchez revealed that he was familiar with one of the victims, the 6-year-old boy, who was known for his outgoing personality and had made friends with many of the neighbors. “That little boy was well known here. Everybody knew that little boy because he’s always running around playing with other kids, always being really loud,” Sanchez said.
The San Jose police department has not released many details regarding the motive behind the incident or whether a suspect is currently in custody.
The tragic loss of a young life has devastated the community. “I feel bad. Like I said, I heard — it broke my heart, man. I just spoke to him yesterday. It’s sad. He’s young. He had his whole life ahead of him,” Sanchez expressed.
Authorities expect to provide more information on the case early next week. These homicides mark numbers 23 and 24 for the year 2023 in San Jose.
