Wakriya AC: the new French coach Benjamin Le Reste shows his ambitions (interview)

CONAKRY- Wakriya AC presented its new French coach Benjamin Le Reste this Thursday, August 3, 2023 in Conakry. The opportunity for the French technician who trained in Regional 1 in France, to grant an interview broadcast on the Facebook page of the Boké club, which fought hard to stay in Ligue 1 this season. In his remarks, Benjamin Le Reste said he was ready to achieve the objectives set for him by the management of Wakriya AC, in particular the qualification next season in the African campaign.

You have just signed for Wakriya, what is your first feeling?

BENJAMIN THE REST : I’m very happy to be back at the club, it was a promise we made to each other, the president, Doctor Mikailou Sampou and I, and today that promise has been kept. I’m very happy to come back and the welcome from the management of Wakriya was very good. I can’t wait to start work

There has already been a first contact with the technical staff and the management, this meeting went well can we imagine?

BENJAMIN THE REST : Very good meeting. Everyone feels involved in the Wakriya project. Everyone wants to progress and do better than last season, from a result point of view. It’s already reassuring and internally, everyone will redouble their efforts to go far in the coming season.

What are the objectives assigned to you by the management of Wakriya AC?

BENJAMIN THE REST : First of all, you have to have a promotional, competitive, conquering team, capable of picking up the results and bringing the club back to its place of yesteryear. Today is a great opportunity for me to be able to lead Wakriya which is a club that is making its way. Working with Wakriya will allow us to evolve in terms of performance and results. The first experience with this club was a success, I had left Guinean soil at the top of the championship. It really made me want to come back here, and I hope we play the leading roles on all possible tables.

Last season was very bad for the club which finished 9th, you are already aware that the task will not be easy ?

Of course, and I like this kind of challenge, and that’s what makes you want to improve. Together with everyone, we will try to work well to achieve our goals..

You will also be involved in the training of young people from Wakriya in particular?

Indeed, beyond the field, there is also the training that we will share together with the young people, and possibly create a team under 15 years old. Already the reserve team of Wakriya, we will have a very watchful eye on them. I saw this team, they are young people who are emerging and who for some are ready to join the first team. Beyond training, partnerships should be forged in Europe to allow players to realize their dreams of joining Europe.

Do you have a word for the Wakriya supporters who were a little disappointed last season with the club’s course ?

We will try to make our many supporters happy, above all we will need them at every match. Their contribution will help us a lot. I hope they will be happy with the work we are going to do here.

You followed the course of Wakriya last season, what do you think are the areas for improvement?

Since my departure I always try to follow the matches of the championship and those of Wakriya AC. There are advances and points on which we should work to bring us to the results. I have already discussed it with my technical staff who did a good job last season, we have already listed the points on which we will work. The recovery will be on August 16th.

For those who don’t know Benjamin Le Reste, a word for them?

I am an educator who has done more than 10 years of work in several clubs. I played very little football because of an injury. In France I went through different clubs, a path that allows me today to grow and evolve. I had two very good seasons in France, in the cup in particular, we played in the round of 16. I had requests from other professional clubs but the Wakriya project attracted me and held my attention. It’s not a money story.
